Huttrop is a residential district in eastern Essen that combines housing areas with medical facilities and educational institutions. The neighborhood is structured around local streets and features a mix of single-family homes and public buildings.
The neighborhood developed from three farming villages called Brünglinghausen, Hovescheidt, and Huttrop, first recorded in 1319. These communities were incorporated into Essen in 1908.
The district emblem features a blue hat with red crossed cords and five blue drops, created in the 1980s. This symbol represents the area's local identity and heritage.
The area has two major hospitals, the Huyssens Foundation and Elisabeth Hospital, serving local residents. Multiple schools and kindergartens are scattered throughout to serve families living here.
