Barbara-Denkmal, Military memorial at Friedrich-Ebert-Ring, Koblenz, Germany
The Barbara-Denkmal at Friedrich-Ebert-Ring in Koblenz is a military memorial featuring a central figure with two allegorical companions. The structure also works as a fountain with water features integrated into the design.
The memorial was inaugurated in 1907 to honor fallen soldiers of an artillery regiment stationed in the city for many years. Major restoration work began in the 1980s and continued through several decades to bring it back to its original form.
The monument displays Saint Barbara, patron saint of artillerymen, through symbolic religious representations in stone. The sculptures reflect how military service has been connected to spiritual traditions and remembrance.
The memorial stands near Christuskirche at an accessible location in the city center. Visitors can easily reach it on foot and view it from the outside without any special requirements.
The fountain features were renewed in 2021 with specially selected stone materials, restoring water elements that had not functioned for a long time. This restoration returned the memorial to its original state as a working fountain, allowing visitors to see the complete design.
