Vier Türme, Historic building ensemble in Koblenz, Germany.
The Four Towers is an ensemble of four connected buildings at the intersection of Am Plan, Lohr Street, Market Street, and Old Moat Street in central Koblenz. Each structure features decorated oriel towers that stand out at the corners of the intersection and create a distinctive visual group.
The original structures were built in 1608 but were destroyed during the War of the Palatinate Succession in 1688. The site was rebuilt between 1689 and 1692 with renewed architectural features that shape how it looks today.
The Hauptwache building displays military objects like rifles and flags that reflect its former role as a command center for regional soldiers. These items offer visitors a window into how the site served the community in earlier times.
The corner building has had a pedestrian passageway since 1950 that provided safe passage when streetcars ran through the intersection until 1967. The passage remains a useful route for people crossing through this busy central location.
One of the buildings, known as Zum heiligen Petrus, housed a pharmacy for more than 270 years, from 1730 until the early 2000s. This remarkably long history as a neighborhood pharmacy makes the building an important part of everyday life in the city.
