Jesuitenkirche, Jesuit church in Old Town, Koblenz, Germany.
Jesuitenkirche is a church in Koblenz's Old Town with three naves and a polygonal choir. The western gable wall dates to the early 17th century and features a large wheel window that stands out on its exterior.
Built between 1613 and 1617, the church replaced an older structure from the 13th century. After wartime destruction in 1944, it was reconstructed from 1958 to 1959 with contemporary design elements incorporated.
The name reflects its founding order and continues to define the place's identity today. Visitors can find artworks spanning different periods inside, showing how this location evolved across centuries through the hands that shaped it.
The church sits on Jesuitenplatz in the Old Town center, right next to the former Jesuit college that now serves as city hall. You can walk to it easily and explore the surroundings while strolling through the historic streets.
Architect Gottfried Böhm designed the reconstruction so that old and new materials stand side by side - concrete next to preserved fragments of the original building. You can feel and understand this contrast immediately upon entering.
