Gänsehals, Mountain summit in Bell, Germany
Gänsehals is a mountain summit near Bell that rises to approximately 575 meters between two former volcanic craters. It sits in the Hocheifel region between the Wehrer Kessel and the Riedener Valley.
In 1844, workers discovered remains of an ancient structure on the summit. Stones from this discovery were later used to build the cemetery wall in Bell.
The mountain sits in an area with Celtic roots visible in old field names scattered across the landscape. These names tell the story of early inhabitants and their connection to the region.
A telecommunications tower at the summit includes a public observation platform at roughly 25 meters high. The viewing point offers wide views of the surrounding mountains and landscape features.
A medieval defensive line called Landwehr runs along the eastern ridge with visible remains of its ditch and wall systems. This fortification shows how the mountain once served as a territorial boundary protection.
