Herzogstand Radio Station, Radio transmission station on Herzogstand mountain, Bavaria, Germany
The radio station structure stands at an elevation of 1,735 meters, featuring three large antennas configured in a fan shape toward the mountain summit point.
Between 1920 and 1946, the station operated as a communication facility connecting Germany with the Far East through long-wave radio transmissions across substantial distances.
The Technical University of Munich utilized this facility from 1930 for conducting extensive research about the Earth's ionosphere, advancing scientific understanding of radio wave propagation.
The station received power from the nearby Lake Walchen Power Plant, which ensured continuous operation through a reliable and cost-effective energy supply system.
Engineers developed a specialized aluminum-coated cable manufacturing process directly at the summit to create the high-tension wires needed for the antenna system.
