Helmbachweiher, Reservoir in Elmstein, Germany
Helmbachweiher is a reservoir in the Palatinate Forest near Elmstein, created by damming the Kohlbach stream. The water body covers roughly 0,6 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of about 2 meters with clear water.
The reservoir was built in 1970 by damming the Kohlbach stream as part of regional water management practices. This project was part of local infrastructure planning for the area.
The pool serves as a Kneipp bathing spot, keeping alive the German tradition of water therapy meant to refresh both body and mind. Visitors can directly experience this form of natural healing and see why it matters to the area.
A forester's lodge and educational garden are located near the water and make it easy to access. There are also barbecue areas for visitors who want to spend time by the water.
The water lies at the border of three forestry districts: Elmstein, Kirrweiler, and Venningen. This makes the reservoir a shared resource managed across local boundaries.
