Idarkopf, Mountain summit in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
The Idarkopf is a mountain summit in the Hunsrück region that rises between the Moselle and Rhine river valleys at 746 meters above sea level. A wooden and steel observation tower stands at the peak, allowing visitors to look out over the surrounding landscapes.
An observation tower made of wood was built in 1980 to give visitors a view over the region. After a fire damaged it in 2018, a new structure combining wood and steel was completed in 2022.
The summit serves as a local landmark that helps people navigate and understand the surrounding landscape. Hikers and visitors regard it as a gathering point that connects the three nearby communities.
The summit is reachable by several hiking trails from different starting points in the surrounding area. The paths are well marked, but visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring weather-appropriate clothing.
About 300 meters northeast of the peak stands a transmission tower on a slightly lower elevation. This tower supports regional communications and adds a technical dimension to the mountain beyond its natural appeal.
