Belginum Archaeological Park, Archaeological site and museum in Morbach, Germany
Belginum Archaeological Park is an excavation site and museum on the grounds of a Celtic-Roman settlement and cemetery near Morbach. Reconstructed Roman buildings and thousands of artifacts from scientific digs show what life was like in this place from the first to third century.
Systematic research on the Roman vicus Belginum began in 1954, when archaeologists discovered strip houses and thousands of objects from the early imperial period. The finds show how important this trading hub was for connecting Roman and local cultures.
The museum displays everyday items and trade goods from the Celtic-Roman inhabitants, including pottery, metalwork, and glass that reflect life in this border region. These objects tell the story of people who lived here and interacted with neighboring cultures.
The park is located in Morbach-Wederath on Keltenstrasse and is open from March through November with visits possible Tuesday through Sunday. Plan to spend one to two hours to see both the outdoor areas and the museum building for a full experience.
Geomagnetic surveys have revealed hidden structures below ground and suggest the settlement was far larger than the visible remains show today. These discoveries could lead to new excavations and deeper understanding of the ancient community.
