Golm transmitter, Radio transmission tower in Potsdam, Germany.
The Golm transmitter is a radio tower in Potsdam that stands as two 51-meter tall steel lattice masts. The facility replaced an original 98-meter wooden structure at the site in 1979.
The transmitter began operations on May 1, 1948, as a central broadcast station for Brandenburg. The original wooden tower was for decades the tallest wooden structure in East Germany before being replaced by modern steel masts in 1979.
The facility shaped post-war media communications in East Germany, broadcasting programs from Landessender Potsdam, Radio Wolga, and Berliner Rundfunk stations.
The site no longer operates and was shut down in the early 1990s. Visitors can view the location from outside to see the remaining structure and appreciate its industrial construction style.
The original wooden tower remained the tallest wooden structure in East Germany until its demolition, featuring four parallel T-antennas for omnidirectional signal transmission.
