Volkshaus zum Mohren, Gotha, Cultural heritage monument in Gotha, Germany
The Volkshaus zum Mohren stands at a strategic intersection of trade routes between Frankfurt, Leipzig, Ohrdruf, and Langensalza in Gotha's Mohrenvorstadt district.
The building, first documented in 1553, remained the only residence preserved during the construction of baroque city fortifications from 1660 to 1663.
In 1740, the building hosted the World Synod of the Moravian Church, a Protestant movement founded by Nikolaus von Zinzendorf that gained international recognition.
Located at coordinates 50.9517 latitude and 10.7097 longitude, the structure served as a gathering place for political and social assemblies until 2007.
Napoleon Bonaparte stayed overnight at this establishment during his retreat from Russia in October 1813, marking a significant moment in European history.
