Telekom-Hochhaus Dortmund, Office building in downtown Dortmund, Germany.
The Telekom-Hochhaus is an office building in downtown Dortmund that rises 88 meters with a cross-shaped floor plan above two octagonal three-story base structures. The tower is clad in a ventilated glass facade with sun-protection reflection windows that help regulate internal temperatures.
The building was designed and constructed in 1981 by architects HPP Hentrich-Petschnigg & Partner. It initially served as headquarters for the Dortmund Post Office Directorate before changing purposes in 1989.
The building entrance features an octagonal water basin with a fountain sculpture by artist Lee Babel that creates a focal point in the plaza. This artistic element gives the public entrance area a distinctive character and invites people to pause and look around.
The building includes two basement levels with parking available for over 100 vehicles for those arriving by car. Its central downtown location makes it easy to reach by public transportation or by foot from nearby streets.
The tower held the title of Dortmund's tallest building until 2006 when newer structures surpassed it. Today it serves as the main office for Westnetz, a major energy network operator that coordinates power distribution across the region.
