Westfalenpark, Public park in Dortmund, Germany.
Westfalenpark is a seventy hectare park with sprawling gardens, walking paths, playgrounds and the two hundred twenty meter tall Florianturm in central Dortmund. The grounds stretch across gently rolling terrain with large lawns, a lake and themed garden sections.
The park opened in eighteen ninety four and transformed from the Kaiser Wilhelm Grove and former waste sites into an exhibition ground for garden shows. Dortmund hosted national garden exhibitions here in nineteen fifty nine, nineteen sixty nine and nineteen ninety one.
The German Rosarium within the park displays more than three thousand rose varieties and draws enthusiasts from across the region. The lake stage beside the large pond hosts summer concerts and performances that bring families and visitors together under the open sky.
The park sits at An der Buschmühle three and offers several entrances, restaurants, parking areas and connections to the public transport network. Paths are well accessible and lead through different areas, so visitors can choose routes based on their interests.
The Water Heart basin changes water levels on a fixed schedule and creates shifting views across the grounds. An innovative roof structure by architect Günter Behnisch has stood since nineteen sixty nine and demonstrates a then novel concept of open cover.
