Sessellift des Westfalenparks, Aerial lift in Westfalenpark, Dortmund, Germany.
The chairlift at Westfalenpark is an aerial lift that carries visitors over a large park grounds filled with gardens and landscaped areas. The ride spans several hundred meters and offers views of different garden sections from above.
The chairlift was built in 1959 for a major garden exhibition and was part of the first Federal Garden Exhibition in Dortmund. After a period without service in the 1990s, it was later restored and returned to operation.
The chairlift provides views of the German Rosarium, where visitors can see hundreds of rose varieties displayed in different colors and fragrances throughout the park. This elevated perspective reveals how the gardens are organized and maintained.
The ride takes about three minutes and is a relaxed way to explore the park grounds. The chairlift depends on weather and operates mainly during the warmer months.
The system was built by Pohlig, a company with long experience in transport systems. What stands out is that the open gondolas let you experience the fresh air directly, with no enclosed spaces to pass through.
