HR Sendesaal

HR Sendesaal is a concert hall housed within the Broadcasting House in Dornbusch with seating for approximately 840 people. The interior walls and ceiling feature around 60,000 sound-absorbing wooden boards that provide excellent acoustic conditions for musical performances and radio recordings.

The hall was built in 1953 and initially functioned as a television studio for broadcasting productions. It hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957, marking its importance during the early days of television.

The hall serves as home to the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, which performs throughout the year with both classical and contemporary works. The orchestra shapes the venue's musical identity and draws audiences who want to experience both traditional and modern compositions.

The venue sits within the Broadcasting House and connects to the Dornbusch and Hauptfriedhof public transportation stations, both within walking distance. Plan extra time to navigate through the broadcasting facility when arriving for an event.

In 1967, the hall hosted the world premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen's 'Mixtur for reduced orchestra,' conducted by Ladislav Kupkovič. This performance linked to the Darmstadt Summer Courses and marked a significant moment for 20th-century experimental music.
