Kaserne Feyen, Military barracks in Trier, Germany.
Kaserne Feyen is a former military compound in Trier occupying a triangular area between the Feyen and Weismark districts, bordered by Pellinger Strasse and Am Pfahlweiher streets. The site covers approximately 340,000 square meters and displays a blend of original barracks buildings alongside newer residential structures.
The barracks complex was built between 1938 and 1939 as Infanterie-Kaserne Trier-Feyen and initially housed the II Battalion of Infantry Regiment 124 starting in February 1939. Following World War II, French forces took control and renamed the facility Quartier Castelnau in honor of General Noel de Castelnau.
The name honors General Noel de Castelnau through the French occupation period following World War II, reflecting the site's role in European military history. The layout and remaining structures remind visitors of the place's complex past across different nations.
The grounds are accessible through several entry roads and feature walkable paths across the converted site, though some areas remain private residential property. Visitors should stick to public routes and respect the privacy of residents living on the premises.
The officer's quarters building was converted into 80 residential units, demonstrating how historic military structures can be transformed into modern living spaces. The homes built on the hillside terraces overlook Trier and the Moselle Valley, merging historical and contemporary living.
