Neustraße

Neustraße is a shopping street in central Trier with stores, cafes, and restaurants on both sides. The street runs through the downtown area and offers a mix of modern shops and older buildings with visible historical features.

The street developed on the foundations of an ancient Roman forum. Traces of this Roman past remain visible today in cellars beneath modern buildings.

The street displays buildings from different periods that carry their history in facades and details. Visitors can see various architectural styles while walking that show how the city evolved over centuries.

The street is easy to explore on foot and offers plenty of opportunities for shopping and dining. Good footwear is recommended since the ground is somewhat uneven in places and the street extends over several blocks.

Authentic Roman bricks remain preserved in cellars beneath some buildings. These direct remains show how the modern city was literally built on top of the ruins of the past.
