Burg Dölau, Medieval castle ruins in Greiz, Germany
The castle ruins stand on a rock formation above the White Elster river, featuring remaining fortification walls and a residential tower structure.
The Lobdeburg family constructed the castle in the 12th century, and by 1359 the ownership transferred to the Reußen family from Plauen in Greiz.
From 1694 to 1743, the castle served as the residence of the Reußen-Dölau nobility line under Heinrich XVI and maintained administrative functions for the region.
The castle grounds remain under private ownership since 2010, with parts of the moat and wall structure undergoing restoration under heritage protection guidelines.
In 1621, Heinrich IV Reuß established a mint within the castle premises and produced coins during his residency at Burg Dölau.
