Weimarhalle, Multi-purpose hall in Weimar, Germany.
Weimarhalle is a multi-purpose event venue in Weimar, built with limestone facades and set within a park in the northern part of the city. The building contains several halls of different sizes, each suited for a different type of event, from large concerts to smaller gatherings.
The original building was constructed in 1931 and served the city for decades before being demolished. The current structure was completed in 1999, the year Weimar held the title of European Capital of Culture.
The Weimarhalle serves as a central venue for concerts, theater performances, and large public gatherings in the city. Attending an event there gives a sense of how much of Weimar's public life gravitates toward this part of town.
The venue sits in a park in the northern part of Weimar and is easy to reach on foot or by public transport from the city center. Arriving a little early gives time to walk through the surrounding park before the event starts.
The current building was designed by architect Volker Staab, who used large glass surfaces to dissolve the boundary between the interior and the park outside. From certain spots inside, you can watch the trees and greenery as if you were standing outdoors.
