The Wismar-Wendorf pier extends approximately 350 meters into the bay with a sturdy structure of wood and steel that rises above the water. The construction provides a wide walking path and several areas with benches and space to stand and take in the surroundings.

The first pier was built in the late 19th century as a landing stage for steamships bringing visitors from Wismar and other coastal towns. The wooden structure was repeatedly renewed and extended, and it was damaged by bombing in the Second World War. A new pier was erected in 1992 after German reunification, and after wind and weather damage it was closed for 13 months and reopened in June 2015.

The pier functions as a place where locals gather casually during walks or social outings, offering different perspectives of the bay. It attracts photographers and serves as a vantage point for watching life on the water throughout the seasons.

The pier remains accessible year-round with wide walkways suitable for different activities and visitors of all abilities. Bring wind-resistant clothing since conditions can be breezy coming across the bay, and wear comfortable shoes for an extended stroll.

On 2 September 2025 the Disney Adventure, the largest ship ever built in Wismar, left the shipyard and passed within sight of the pier, watched by many onlookers from the shore. The pier is also a popular spot for anglers.
