List harbour, Harbour on Sylt island
List harbour is a working port at the northern tip of Sylt that accommodates ferries and fishing boats. The area features parking, restaurants, and shops near the docks where you can watch ships of various sizes come and go.
The harbor has served as a key connection point between Sylt and the mainland as well as Denmark for many centuries. Over time it developed from a simple anchorage into a modern ferry port that handles passenger ships, cargo vessels, and fishing boats.
The harbor is a place where locals and visitors gather to watch the sea and passing ships. The old warehouse buildings and simple layout show how the island has always been connected to the sea and maritime life.
The harbor is easy to reach by car via the main road L24 and offers ample parking nearby. Visitors should arrive about 20 minutes before ferry departure and can also travel by bus or bicycle as the area is pedestrian and bicycle friendly.
Two distinctive red and white striped lighthouses mark the harbor and have guided ships crossing the North Sea for many generations. The historic location also played a role in early aviation adventures, including the first flight from List to New York.
