Schlossberg

The rectangular fortification stretches across 100 by 180 meters with walls reaching heights between 2 to 8 meters on a forested moraine hill.

Archaeological excavations at the site revealed pottery fragments and flint artifacts dating from the Late Neolithic period through the Bronze Age.

The fortification represents the oldest castle on Rügen Island and stands as a primary archaeological site in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The site maintains three gate-like entrances on the northern wall and one passage on the eastern side, with outer trenches reaching 1.5 meters in depth.

The southwestern section of the fortress suffered alterations in the 1950s due to gravel extraction operations and a chalk pit development.
