Rittergut Eckerde, Manor estate in Barsinghausen, Germany
Rittergut Eckerde is a classical manor house with two stories, five window axes, and a solid masonry foundation located on expansive grounds in Barsinghausen. The property includes a six-hectare park featuring protected water elements that welcome visitors during special events.
The estate began as property of the von Loh family and was transferred to the von Holle family in 1487, remaining under their ownership for more than 400 years. This extended period of stewardship shaped the manor's physical form and role in the region.
The mirror hall in the main house serves as an official wedding venue for Barsinghausen, continuing the estate's role as a place where important community moments happen. You can see how historical spaces like this adapt to remain part of local life.
The grounds open to visitors during special events from May through October and feature walking paths through the historic gardens with parking available. Wear appropriate footwear since the park has slopes and natural water features that become slippery in wet conditions.
A dark red granite boulder discovered during excavations in 1935 suggests an ancient house foundation from the Cheruscan period once stood on the property. This finding hints that the site may have been a settlement location for many centuries before the manor was built.
