Barsinghausen

Barsinghausen is an independent community in the Hannover region that spreads across 18 districts nestled at the base of the Deister hills. Its layout combines residential neighborhoods with green spaces and the historic monastic buildings that anchor the town center.

The area was first documented in 1193 as a rural settlement in the region. Starting in 1871, it transformed into a coal mining hub, with extraction remaining central to the local economy until 1957.

The monastic complex has shaped the community's identity for centuries and remains a focal point for religious gatherings. The churches here continue to host services and celebrations that reflect the area's spiritual heritage.

The town is easily accessible by public transportation and sits close to Hannover, making it a straightforward destination to reach. Visitors will find an extensive network of walking paths leading into the surrounding Deister hills.

The Klosterstollen is a walkable former mine that offers visitors insight into the underground world of coal extraction. In addition, the Deister Open Air Theater invites guests to performances under the open sky during summer months.
