The residential and commercial building at Syker Strasse 19 stands as a substantial structure featuring both living spaces and business premises across multiple floors.

The building dates back to the 18th century when Matthias Hartmann, who served as bailiff in Heiligenfelde parish, acquired the land between 1768 and 1771.

In 1801, Johann Philipp Hartmann established the first coffee house in Syke within this building, marking a new social gathering point for the community.

The structure contains 26 rooms, a hall, and an entrance area, with the ground floor designated for commercial use and upper levels reserved for residential purposes.

Carl Balk, a postmaster who acquired the building in 1828, maintained a horse stable for postal operations, generating substantial income from mail transport services.
