The museum was established in 1937 and began collecting objects from daily rural life in the region. The buildings on the grounds come from different periods and show how rural life developed over time.

The site is open year-round, but visiting hours change with the seasons. In winter, time is limited, while spring and summer offer longer periods to explore the outdoor buildings and collections.
A modern building holds discoveries from an ancient gold hoard found nearby in the region. The display includes replicas and occasionally original pieces from this valuable archaeological find.
