Heipker See

Heipker See is a nature reserve featuring a freshwater lake, adjacent stream with wetland forest, and damp grassland spanning roughly 50 hectares. The diverse habitats together create a valuable retreat for birds and other wildlife in the region.

The area received protected status in 1991 and gained further conservation measures in 2001 to preserve local biodiversity. These decisions reflect growing recognition of the ecological value of wetlands in this region.

Local bird watchers regularly visit to document species diversity and explore the wetland forest areas. Many visitors use the marked paths to observe birds and experience the undisturbed natural setting.

Green triangular signs featuring sea eagles mark the trails through the area and help visitors find their way. Access is intentionally limited to prevent damage to paths and vegetation, so it is important to stay on designated routes.

A hybrid woodpecker combining features of green and grey woodpeckers was first documented in the Lippe region at this location. This rare sighting makes the reserve particularly notable for bird specialists and nature enthusiasts.
