Ashanti Region

With 24,389 square kilometers of land area, Ashanti Region represents the third largest administrative division of Ghana, containing 43 districts and the major city of Kumasi.

The region emerged from the powerful Ashanti Empire, which controlled vast territories and trade routes during the 18th and 19th centuries under the leadership of King Osei-Tutu.

The Kejetia Market in Kumasi stands as the largest open-air market in West Africa, where merchants sell traditional Kente cloth, gold jewelry, and regional agricultural products.

The region maintains 1,654 health facilities, multiple public universities, and an extensive road network connecting Kumasi Airport to surrounding districts and neighboring regions.

Lake Bosomtwe, formed by an ancient meteorite impact, represents the sole natural lake in Ghana and serves as a central feature of the Ashanti landscape.
