Kallikrateia municipality, Former municipality in Nea Propontida, Greece.
Kallikrateia is a former municipality in the Chalkidiki region that encompasses several villages scattered across residential zones and open countryside. The area now functions as a municipal unit integrated into a larger administrative structure.
The municipality was established after 1922 when refugees from Eastern Thrace settled near the Xenophontos Monastery and founded new communities. This resettlement shaped the character and development of the entire area.
The municipality incorporates five distinct communities: Agios Pavlos, Lakkoma, Nea Gonia, Nea Kallikrateia, and Nea Silata, each maintaining local traditions.
The area is accessible by car and local transport, situated in the flat plains of Chalkidiki which makes getting around straightforward. Visitors should know that the different villages are spread across the landscape, so allow time to explore the various settlements.
The area maintains a partnership with the Sicilian municipality of Caltagirone, enabling regular cultural exchanges between the Greek and Italian communities. This international connection demonstrates how local communities stay linked across borders and continents.
