The Temple of Aphaia stands 160 meters above sea level, featuring 6 columns on each short side and 12 columns along the sides, constructed with local limestone.
Built between 500-490 BC, this temple replaced an earlier structure that burned down in 510 BC, marking the third temple constructed at this religious site.
The temple pediments display marble sculptures depicting scenes from the Trojan War, with Athena as the central figure in the compositions.
Located 15 kilometers from Aegina's capital, the temple maintains 24 of its original 32 columns and contains architectural elements from different construction periods.
The columns demonstrate precise engineering, with corner supports being thicker than others and all pillars slightly tilting inward for structural stability.
