Holy Trinity Monastery, Orthodox monastery on Aegina island, Greece
Holy Trinity Monastery is an Orthodox monastery on the island of Aegina, built around a main church with two bell towers and red arched decorations on its facade. Several other buildings, including chapels, residential quarters, and service areas, are arranged around open courtyards within the walled compound.
The monastery was founded in 1904 by Nektarios Kefalas, a bishop who had retired to Aegina and gathered a small community of nuns around him. After his death in 1920, he was canonized, and the site grew into one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in the Greek Orthodox world.
The monastery is closely tied to Saint Nektarios, one of the most venerated Orthodox saints in Greece, and draws pilgrims who come to pray at his tomb. Visitors can observe the daily rhythm of monastic life, with nuns moving quietly between the church, the garden, and the other buildings of the compound.
Visitors should cover their shoulders and knees before entering, as modest dress is required throughout the compound. The monastery is open year-round and is easy to reach from Aegina town, making it a straightforward stop on a day trip to the island.
The personal living quarters of Saint Nektarios have been kept almost exactly as they were during his lifetime and can be visited inside the compound. His clothing and a few personal objects are still on display in the room, offering a direct and unmediated connection to the saint.
