Lychnostatis Open Air Museum

Lychnostatis Open Air Museum is an open-air museum on Crete that brings together traditional buildings from different periods. The site features a village house, a church, a windmill, a wine press, and a raki distillery spread across multiple zones.

A professor began gathering traditional objects and expertise from the region more than 30 years before the museum opened. The site was established in 1992 to preserve these cultural elements for future generations.

The museum displays objects and crafts that shaped everyday life in Cretan communities. Visitors can see traditional textiles, ceramics, and tools that reveal how people worked and lived in the region.

The site is easy to explore on foot, with different zones connected by natural paths. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and plan time to walk through each building and explore the interiors.

All buildings were constructed using only traditional materials and handcrafted techniques, without modern machinery or equipment. This creates an authentic look at historical building methods and daily life practices.
