Marseille tramway, Transportation system in Marseille, France
The Marseille tramway is a public transport system with three active lines serving the city. The network connects 32 stations across different neighborhoods, from residential areas in the east to the city center and the port area.
Marseille once had around a hundred tram lines crisscrossing the city. The system was reduced to three lines today, following a modernization effort that took shape when the transport authority took over management in 2008.
The tram is woven into the daily rhythm of Marseille, moving people between neighborhoods and their routines. At the stops, you see a mix of locals heading to work, shoppers, and visitors discovering different parts of the city.
The tram is easy to board, with wide doors, elevators, and ramps at all stations for people with mobility challenges. Modern vehicles have air conditioning and wide windows, with frequent departures during daytime hours and good connections to buses and the metro.
Line 3 was introduced as recently as 2015 and was planned to expand with 10 new stations, adding three in the south and seven in the north. This growth shows how the city continues to develop its transport network to reach more neighborhoods.
