Gentilly is a residential municipality on the southern edge of Paris in Val-de-Marne with a dense urban character. The area combines apartment buildings, local shops, and public spaces that form the everyday landscape of this suburb.
In 1860, half of what was then Gentilly's territory was annexed to Paris to form the neighborhoods of Maison-Blanche and Glacière in the 13th arrondissement. The remaining area developed as an independent residential community.
