Tonnerre 2 Zeus, Wooden roller coaster in Parc Astérix, Plailly, France
Tonnerre 2 Zeus is a wooden roller coaster at Parc Astérix in Plailly that runs along 1232 meters of track and reaches 84 kilometers per hour (roughly 52 miles per hour). The structure rises 30 meters (about 98 feet) above the ground and follows a layout that combines sharp drops with tight turns built entirely from wood.
The ride opened in 1997 under the name Tonnerre de Zeus and underwent major renovations between 2019 and 2021. After these changes, it received its current name and now offers a significantly altered experience.
The roller coaster incorporates elements from Greek mythology, with Zeus representing the power of thunder through the intense ride experience.
Two trains run on the track at the same time, which helps keep waiting times shorter. Each train has seven cars that seat four people, meaning 28 passengers ride together on every departure.
The ride delivers fourteen moments when riders lift from their seats and includes a spiraling turn that sweeps through 256 degrees. This length places it among the three longest wooden coasters in Europe.
