Discobélix, Disk'O coaster at Parc Astérix, Plailly, France
Discobelix is a modern ride featuring a circular platform that travels along an 81.5-meter halfpipe track while spinning simultaneously. This combination creates alternating sensations of intense acceleration and weightlessness for the 24 passengers seated facing outward.
The ride was designed and built by Italian manufacturer Zamperla in 2016. This addition expanded the park's collection of attractions after its original opening in 1989.
The ride draws from the French Asterix comic series, with characters and themes from ancient Gaul visible in the design and surrounding area. Visitors notice these references as they move through the ride and explore the surrounding parkland.
The ride operates daily within Parc Asterix but requires riders to meet a minimum height of 120 centimeters. Visiting during less crowded times of day can help you avoid longer queues.
The circular seating platform is completely open to the air, allowing riders an unobstructed view of the surroundings throughout their journey. This open design amplifies the sensation of vertigo created by the simultaneous spinning and lateral movement.
