The district served as a major wine trading center in the 18th century, with large warehouses for products arriving via the Seine. This commercial activity shaped the area for generations before modern development transformed the space.

The Musée des Arts Forains displays antique carnival rides and fairground objects inside restored wine storage buildings. Visitors can discover objects from past decades that tell stories of traditional celebrations and popular festivals.

Metro stations Bercy and Cour Saint-Émilion connect the area to central Paris, and numerous bus routes cross through the district. Riverside paths along the Seine offer pleasant walking routes to explore the neighborhood.

The Finance Ministry building spans across the Seine, creating an architectural bridge between both riverbanks. This unusual construction allows the building to occupy both sides of the river and symbolically connects two parts of the city.
