Pic de Saint-Barthélemy, Mountain peak in Ariège, France.
Pic de Saint-Barthélemy is a mountain summit in the Tabe massif in Ariège that reaches about 2348 meters. From the top, you can see across the entire Pyrenean range with many neighboring peaks visible in all directions.
The mountain was declared the highest point of the Pyrenees in 1609 by King Henry IV's court historian. This declaration made it a known landmark in the region.
The trails to the summit pass by old quarries that show how mining shaped the region centuries ago. Visitors can see these traces and understand how people once worked in these mountains.
The ascent from Montségur follows a trail that takes several hours and involves a significant elevation gain. It is important to wear good footwear and bring enough water and food.
From December to May, snow covers the slopes and allows for snowshoe hiking through the mountain landscape. This season offers a completely different experience compared to visiting in warmer months.
