Barrière Saint-Martin, Historical tollhouse in Quartier de la Villette, France
The Rotonde de la Villette features a circular design with twenty pairs of columns and a triangular pediment on the ground level.
Claude Nicolas Ledoux constructed this tollhouse between 1786 and 1788 as part of the Wall of the Farmers-General to collect taxes on goods.
The building represents the Louis XVI architectural style through its geometric forms, combining a cube base with a cylindrical upper structure.
Located at 6-8 Place de la Bataille de Stalingrad in the 19th arrondissement, the structure now functions as a restaurant and entertainment venue.
This tollhouse remains one of the few surviving examples of the original fifty tax collection points that once encircled Paris in the 18th century.
