Paglia Orba, Mountain summit in Haute-Corse, France
Paglia Orba is a distinctive mountain summit in Haute-Corse with a pointed tooth-like shape standing at 2525 meters. The peak sits within the Monte Cinto massif, positioned between the Golo River valley and the Cavicchia valley.
The mountain formed during the Permian period, composed of conglomerate rocks and arkosic sandstones. This geological makeup sets it apart from the volcanic formations found in the surrounding peaks.
The mountain features the Geologists' Breach, named in memory of a geologist who lost his life while conducting research on the mountain's composition.
Access is typically planned from Col de Vergio using Road D84, with the main climbing route departing from Ciottulu a i Mori refuge via Col des Maures. Visitors should expect steep terrain and exposed rock sections, particularly during the final approach to the summit.
The peak shelters the source of Corsica's longest river, the Golo, at its top. The steep slopes are covered with a dense forest of laricio pines, a specific type of tree that has shaped the woodlands around Albertacce for generations.
