Cirque de la Solitude, Natural cirque in the Filosorma, Haute-Corse, France

Cirque de la Solitude is a natural rock formation along the GR20 hiking trail in Corsica's mountains. The site features steep stone walls and rough terrain that demands experience and careful navigation.

The GR20 long-distance trail once crossed the Cascettoni, descending and climbing about 300 m between the Bocca Minuta (2,218 m) and the Bocca Tumasginesca, or col Perdu (2,183 m). After a rockfall in June 2015 killed seven people, the route through the cirque was unmarked and dismantled in summer 2016. Since then the GR20 has run from Astu Stagnu (Haut-Asco) to the Tighjettu refuge via the pointe des Éboulis, near Monte Cinto.

Locals call the basin I Cascittoni in Corsican, while French maps give the name cirque de la Solitude. Until summer 2016 the GR20 crossed it between the Bocca Minuta (2,218 m) and the Bocca Tumasginesca (2,183 m), a descent and climb of about 300 m. The trail was then unmarked and dismantled after the June 2015 rockfall that killed seven people.

Hikers should bring full mountain gear including sturdy boots and climbing equipment, as the terrain is demanding. The area has limited mobile phone coverage and sits in an isolated mountain region, so visitors should plan their route beforehand and check weather conditions.

The cirque's lowest point, where the old GR20 crossed, lies at 1,906 m; the rim is formed by Punta Minuta (2,556 m), Punta Rossa or pic Von Cube (2,247 m) and Capu di a Crucetta (2,186 m). The two former entrances were Bocca Minuta (2,218 m) and Bocca Tumasginesca, also called col Perdu (2,183 m).
