Cirque de la Solitude, Natural cirque formation on GR20 trail in Corsica, France
The Cirque de la Solitude features steep rock walls and challenging terrain, reaching elevations of nearly 2600 meters along the GR20 hiking path.
In 2015, authorities closed the original path through the Cirque after an incident, establishing an alternative route over Pointe Eboulis near Monte Cinto.
The formation, known locally as I Cascittoni, represents a significant landmark within Corsica's mountainous landscape and attracts experienced hikers from around Europe.
Hikers require specialized equipment to navigate the rocky terrain, with iron chains installed at steep sections and mobile phone coverage limited to specific locations.
The cirque creates a natural amphitheater with its lowest point at 1930 meters, offering views of Stagnu, Fango, Galeria, and the Paglia Orba mountains.
