Cirque de la Solitude

Cirque de la Solitude is a natural rock formation along the GR20 hiking trail in Corsica's mountains. The site features steep stone walls and rough terrain that demands experience and careful navigation.

The site formed through natural erosion and mountain building over millions of years in Corsica's highlands. The original passage through the formation was closed in 2015 after a safety incident, leading to the creation of an alternative route via Pointe Eboulis.

The formation, known locally as I Cascittoni, represents a significant landmark within Corsica's mountainous landscape and attracts experienced hikers from around Europe.

Hikers should bring full mountain gear including sturdy boots and climbing equipment, as the terrain is demanding. The area has limited mobile phone coverage and sits in an isolated mountain region, so visitors should plan their route beforehand and check weather conditions.

The site creates a natural amphitheater effect between the surrounding rock walls and offers wide views across the neighboring peaks and valleys. This formation is a rare example of the dramatic landscape features found only in a few places on the island.
