Château de Reynerie, Palladian castle in Toulouse, France
Château de Reynerie is a castle in Toulouse with Palladian style design, featuring a rectangular shape with seven bays on each side. A central rotunda marks the grand salon, and the symmetrical brick facades create a balanced and orderly appearance.
Guillaume Dubarry built the castle between 1781 and 1783 after receiving lands and a pension from King Louis XV due to his connections. The construction took place during the final years of the old royal system, just before major changes transformed France.
Inside you find furniture from the Louis XVI period, crystal chandeliers, ornate woodwork, and detailed stucco decorations that show how late 18th-century French nobility lived. Walking through the rooms gives you a sense of the tastes and daily comforts that wealthy families valued.
The property is open to visitors since the City of Toulouse acquired it in 2009 and maintains the site with regular restoration work. When you visit, take time to see both the interior rooms and the exterior facades, plus the gardens surrounding the building.
The estate gardens hold rare tree species that were brought from Saint-Domingue during the 18th century and planted here. You can still see remnants of an intricate water system built at that time to manage the gardens.
