Collegiate Church of Saint-André, Grenoble, 13th century collegiate church in Place Saint-André, France
The Saint-André Collegiate Church displays a Lombard architectural design with a central nave, low transept, and square chevet using brick and limestone materials.
The church construction began in 1228 under Dauphin André's direction to establish a chapter of twelve canons previously located in Champagnier, south of Grenoble.
The chapter of Saint-André held a leading position in local religious ceremonies, requiring protocol arrangements with the cathedral chapter for processions and festivals.
The collegiate church stands in the central pedestrian area of Grenoble, opposite the former Palace of Parliament, and remains open to visitors throughout the year.
The Gothic spire, completed in 1331, rises 56 meters high and contains the first public clock in Grenoble, installed in 1398 following an agreement with the canons.
