Ghisoni-Capanelle, Ski resort in Haute-Corse, France
Ghisoni-Capanelle is a ski resort positioned on the eastern slope of a mountain range crowned by Monte Renoso at 2,352 meters (7,717 ft). The terrain includes three kilometers (1.9 miles) of slopes served by three ski lifts.
Development of the ski station began in 1974 under the leadership of Doctor Maymard and Mayor Vignaroli, with the first ski lifts installed the following year.
The name Capanelle comes from old shepherd shelters that once provided refuge for herders traveling the GR 20 hiking trail across Corsica.
The slopes typically operate from January through March, so it is wise to check seasonal conditions before traveling. Being situated on a mountainside, cold clear days provide the best visiting experience.
The entire resort operates completely off-grid, powered by generators that run all mechanical equipment and facilities. This independence from the power network makes it one of the few self-sufficient stations at this elevation.
