Mont Julioz, Mountain summit in Savoie, France

Mont Julioz is a limestone summit in the Bauges that rises above the Doucy Valley and offers expansive views of the surrounding mountains. This peak is part of a hiking network with multiple approach routes that pass through alpine meadows.

Mont Julioz lies on the communes of Doucy-en-Bauges, Le Châtelard and partly Bellecombe-en-Bauges in Savoie. Its summit is built of Urgonian limestone, and the flysch forming its western flank is affected by a landslide above the village of Le Châtelard. The mountain belongs to the type II ZNIEFF of the Massifs Orientaux des Bauges.

The mountain lies within the Massifs Orientaux des Bauges, a type II ZNIEFF, and within the Bauges Regional Nature Park. Its western flank of flysch, above the village of Le Châtelard, is affected by a landslide. The summit itself is urgonian limestone, the same rock as the Chabert and Etrier chain it continues.

The ascent requires good hiking gear and solid physical fitness, especially for the steeper sections. Conditions in the higher areas can change quickly, so stay flexible and turn back if weather deteriorates.
