The Massif des Bauges stretches across 85,600 hectares of limestone mountains, featuring villages, meadows, and forests between four major cities.
The French government established the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park in December 1995 to protect its geological and natural resources.
The park contains 14 traditional villages where local architecture includes tavalans, balconies designed specifically for drying wood under barn roof overhangs.
The park office welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM in Le Châtelard.
The underground network includes the Prérouge Cave system, which forms the deepest cave exploration route in the Savoie region.
