Prehistoric museum, Archaeological museum in Carnac, France
The Museum of Prehistory displays 3000 artifacts that trace 450,000 years of history, with an emphasis on Neolithic construction periods from 4900 to 2200 BC.
Scottish scholar James Miln established the museum in 1882 after conducting extensive research on local megalithic monuments and accumulating a substantial collection of artifacts.
The museum exhibits large alpine-jade axes and polished jewelry imported from Spain, demonstrating the trade networks and craftsmanship of Neolithic communities.
The museum opens daily from 10:00 to 18:30, with admission prices of 7 euros for adults and 3 euros for children between 6 and 17 years old.
The institution earned recognition as the first museum worldwide dedicated to megalithism, featuring collections that document the construction of dolmens and menhirs.
