La Poudrière

La Poudrière features a rectangular structure measuring 23 meters by 14.15 meters, with a peak height of 8.5 meters and terracotta tile roofing.

Originally constructed in 1865 as a military powder magazine with a storage capacity of 94,600 kilograms behind the government hotel, now serving as a cultural venue.

The center maintains exhibition spaces and workshop areas where local artists display their works and conduct creative sessions throughout the year.

Located at 8 Impasse du 8 Mai 1945 in Cayenne, the facility includes five alcoves for artifacts and a peripheral decompression corridor divided into ten channels.

The building was never completed according to traditional powder magazine specifications, as it remained above ground despite period maps showing it as underground.
