Porte de la Plaine, City gate in 15th arrondissement, France
Porte de la Plaine is a city gate in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, located at the intersection of Boulevard Lefebvre and Rue Olivier-de-Serres. It serves as a passage point between central Paris and the surrounding périphérique ring road.
The gate was relocated during the construction of the périphérique ring road system to improve connections to the nearby town of Vanves. This repositioning was part of Paris's major urban redevelopment in the mid-20th century.
The structure connects to a large sports complex and maintains proximity to the Parc des Expositions, contributing to the neighborhood's recreational infrastructure.
The Georges-Brassens tram stop on line T3a provides convenient access to the gate. Multiple entry and exit points make it relatively simple to navigate across the boundary between the city and the ring road.
A 1926 painting titled 'Neige (poterne de la plaine)' by Robert Louis Antral depicts the gate and is held in the Musée Carnavalet collection. This artwork captures how the gate looked before major urban transformations reshaped the area.
