Binbaleta, Mountain summit at French-Spanish border in Navarre and Soule, France
Binbaleta is a mountain summit reaching 1757 meters (5,761 feet) at the French-Spanish border between Orhy and the Massif d'Anie. The slopes are steep and rocky with minimal vegetation at the highest elevations.
The mountain has served as a navigation point for centuries due to its height and visibility across the region. Its border location made it a natural reference for defining territorial boundaries.
Shepherds from both the French and Spanish sides use the mountain's slopes for grazing, following pathways that have been passed down through generations.
Most hikes begin from the Cayolar de Eskantolha and follow a clear trail that takes about 4 hours. Sturdy footwear and weather protection are important since the exposed summit can experience rapidly changing conditions.
From the summit visitors can see three distinct geological formations: the Holzarté canyons, the Belagua valley, and the Kakouetta gorges. This view reveals the diverse geological structure of the Pyrenean region.
